4 Essential Features in a Gourmet Kitchen

A gourmet kitchen is every avid home cook’s dream. It doesn’t have to look like a professional kitchen, but it does need to have appliances and a design that makes cooking easier.

If you’re an avid home cook who’s considering pursuing a kitchen remodeling project, here are some of the features worth considering:

1. Top-of-the-Line Kitchen Appliances

It’s not uncommon for a gourmet kitchen to have many of the appliances found in a commercial kitchen. Some of these appliances include a large 48? refrigerator and freezer, dual ovens, a six-burner stovetop, and a wine cooler. While these appliances would certainly be nice to have in a gourmet kitchen, they’re not must-haves. For more casual cooking enthusiasts, standard stainless steel appliances and a well-stocked pantry should be more than enough.

Of course, the kinds of appliances you need in a gourmet kitchen depend on the cooking you specialize in. For instance, if you’re more into baking than cooking savory dishes, a double oven would be a more practical choice than a stovetop.

2. Industrial-Strength Ventilation

If you’re going to use professional kitchen appliances, your kitchen is going to need industrial-strength ventilation. That’s because commercial-grade appliances produce more heat, smoke, and vapor. It’s common knowledge that adequate ventilation is essential in any kitchen, but if you find them too unsightly, you can conceal exhaust hoods in cabinetry.

3. Easy-to-Reach Shelves and Cabinets

When you’re racing against the clock to cook meals by dinnertime, you’ll need to multitask to finish them on time. Multitasking is a lot easier if your tools and ingredients are within arms’ reach.

Keep in mind kitchen shelves and cabinets also play an important role in determining your kitchen’s aesthetic appeal. If you need to update your cabinets, you can have your contractor do cabinet resurfacing work on them.

4. Self-Sustaining Kitchen Island

You won’t be able to multitask effectively if you don’t have enough space. It’s not uncommon for gourmet kitchens to have two kitchen islands that offer plenty of cooking space and allow more than one person to prep and cook meals.
