Tips for Picking the Right Stools for Your Kitchen Island

While it may sound hard to believe, picking the right bar stools for your kitchen island isn’t actually an easy thing. According to experts, you can’t just go and pick the first ones that you see. In fact, there are a lot of factors to consider when picking counter stools that it can be challenging to choose ones that suit your kitchen island. Thankfully, there are a few tips you can follow to make this process easier on you.

In this article, cabinet resurfacing expert DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Southeast Florida gives a few tips that can help you pick the right bar stools for your kitchen island.

Keep Your Counter’s Height in Mind

When trying to pick the right counter stools for your kitchen island, you’ll need to keep your counter’s height in mind to ensure comfortable seating. According to experts, if you have a counter that’s 28’’ to 30’’ in height, choose a chair stool that is 18’’ from the floor to the seat. Counters that are 36’’ to 39’’ in height can be paired with counter stools that are 24’’ to 26’’ from the floor. Finally, counters that are 40’’ to 42’’, on the other hand, can be paired with bar stools that are 28’’ to 30’’ from the floor to the seat.

Consider the Style of the Stool

According to kitchen remodeling pros, you’ll also need to consider the style of your potential stool when trying to pick one that suits your kitchen island. This is because the stool style that you choose can vary depending on various factors such as your available space. For instance, if you don’t want a tall profile that can overwhelm your island, choose a backless stool that can easily be tucked away. However, if you’re looking to entertain, choose a broad-backed stool with deep seating.

Determine How Many You Can Fit

Kitchen islands are another place where people can eat, drink and socialize. However, while they’re doing this, the last thing you want to happen is them bumping elbows with one another. With that in mind, when adding stools to your kitchen island, you must also determine how many stools you can fit in it. When it comes to this, a general rule of thumb is that you need to look at the widest part of your stools. For example, if the widest part of your stool is 16’’ to 18’’, allow 22’’ to 22’’ of space per stool.
