Why You Should Use Concrete for Your Patio

Various design and landscaping ideas can transform your concrete patio into a stylish outdoor area. With the right use of color, pattern and landscaping, your patio will be more than just a dull, gray pavement. DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Southeast Florida, a home improvement and kitchen remodeling expert, further discusses the advantages of using concrete for your patio.

Versatility

Concrete can be styled in many ways and it can even be made to look like other materials like stone, tile and brick. Apart from stamping patterns, you can also stain your concrete patio in solid colors or other interesting patterns that you can come up with. You can also choose to paint your concrete patio. Just make sure to use a type of paint suited for outdoor use. If you prefer a more sophisticated look, you might want to consider embossing or engraving patterns into concrete surfaces.

Durability

Maintaining concrete patios is relatively easier, especially when you compare it to wooden decks. Concrete patios should be power washed and scrubbed regularly. They should also be sanded or ground before they can be resealed. Resealing is only needed once every two to three years, so concrete patios can also be cost-effective in the long run. When properly maintained, your concrete patio can last for 30 years or more. If you’re planning for bathroom remodeling as well, concrete would also be a good material to consider.

Affordability

The upfront cost of building a concrete patio is usually more affordable than a wooden deck. That said, concrete patios tend to have a lower return on investment than wooden decks. If you want to improve the value of your home, you can still opt for a concrete patio, but your style choices will definitely be factored in. So make sure the style of your patio fits the design of your home and landscaping.
