7 Storage Ideas for Your Laundry Room

Laundry rooms are typically among the smallest rooms in the house, which means storage space would be a premium. Home remodeling contractor DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen shares ideas that maximize storage in your laundry room.

  1. Maximize Vertical Space — Install racks or shelves to maximize use of vertical space in your laundry room. This means removing anything decorative and choosing vertical storage solutions. Consider that laundry rooms tend to have high amounts of moisture in the air, so choose storage designed for humid areas.

  1. Hang a Drying Rack from The Ceiling — You can use your vertical space all the way to the ceiling by installing a drying rack. A simple ladder-like piece (or simply repurpose an old ladder) should be enough for drying light clothing or underwear. Be careful not to hang anything that’s too heavy on it.

  1. Install Shelving on Unused Corners — Little foot-wide nooks and crannies in your laundry area make the perfect storage space for tools and supplies. Maximize the use of those spaces with small custom shelves that fit these unused corners. You can even use the same idea when planning your next bathroom remodel.

  1. Store Supplies in Baskets — Keep your supplies organized by buying baskets for your shelves. Alternatively, use clear storage containers so you can easily see its contents. High shelves also let you keep bleach and other laundry supplies out of your kids’ reach.

  1. Use Curtains to Separate Spaces — Just because it’s a laundry area doesn’t mean the washing machine has to be prominently displayed all the time. A simple curtain rod and opaque curtains let you create partitions that make the laundry area look cleaner when not in use.

  1. Add a Folding Station — If a table won’t fit in your laundry room it’s no problem: have a folding station that actually folds installed on one of the walls.

  1. Use a Bookshelf for More Storage — Bookshelves are not just for books; you can use them to store practically anything. The best part is, you don’t have to buy expensive bookshelves for this. Cube bookshelves from Ikea come in various configurations and are fairly easy to take home and assemble.
