4 Ways to Expand Your Small Kitchen

A small kitchen may seem hard to remodel. With only a limited amount of space to work with, it feels like there’s not much to do. The only option seems to be expansion or annexing space from other rooms but it can be costly sometimes. DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Southeast Florida is here to give you four handy kitchen remodeling tips for expanding your small kitchen.

1. Remove Clutter

Before you start anything, the best way to go is to remove the clutter. Clutter can make the kitchen look and feel like it’s small. There are a lot of emerging appliances that make cooking easier and you might not notice but they’re starting to pile up in your kitchen. These appliances are often placed on your counter because of a lack of storage spaces.

Proper storage is the best way to keep your kitchen decluttered, so you may want to consider getting new kitchen cabinets. Take advantage of the entire kitchen area and go for floor-to-ceiling cabinets. You can place the appliances not commonly used in the upper portions of the cabinet. These cabinets can give you more storage space and can keep the more expensive appliances out of children’s reach.

2. Rearrange Kitchen Materials

There are also things other than your appliances that take up a lot of space in your kitchen. These can be your holiday china plates, bowls, extra utensils, and such. Though they are important, they are less commonly used. Keep them away from the kitchen and place them in a separate storage area, such as the garage, basement, or closet.

3. Downsize the Island

A big island may look great for your kitchen, but having a large one may make it difficult to move around. There is a lot of movement in the kitchen so it’s best to give yourself space for this. Try to replace your island with a smaller, but functional one. A 4 to 6 feet long and 30 to 36 inches wide island is already sufficient and gives you enough room to move around.

4. Use the Space Under The Cabinets

The space under your cabinets can also be used as storage space. A hanging wine glasses rack will fit in perfectly and also make your kitchen look fancier. You can also add mug hooks or a silverware drawer. It’s both easy to reach and functional.
